Our History and Background
We first met November 7th, 1979. The inspiration for the founding of the Funis was the wedding dinner that was held for Brother Bagg †. Instead of the usual strippers and stag films, we enjoyed a civilized evening of comradeship, good food, and witty conversation.
You can imagine our disappointment.
Nonetheless, it made a good topic for conversation, and we thought we might keep doing it until we got it right. And that's how the Funis were concieved. Like most conceptions, it was over in a minute and left some parties dissatisfied and others wanting more. But in a mere 6 days (funis have an amazing gestational capacity) the Funis were born. We've never looked back, which probably accounts for those dents on the rear bumper.
There are currently 7 members of the Society. In no particular order they are:
Dave Smith
David Lemon
Sean Wood
Bruce Gillis
Donald Mitchell
Bob Flute
Peter Perina
But if you think we're posting our personal data (weight, height, phone number, sexual preferences) on something like the Web, you're crazy. Even posting the names was traumatic, but they help us remember who the others are when stricken by those passing bouts of alcohol-induced Alzheimer's. And quite frankly, we're not all that up-to-date on each other's sexual preferences anyways - and that's the way we prefer it to be.
We have posted a photo on the Photo Page. Further documentation may be available at a later date, as time permits and the Webmaster's resources allow.
† Bob Bagg (1945-2010) had the dubious distinction of being the first of the Funis to pass on to the great banquet table in the sky, where he is no doubt saving up stories and anecdotes for the time when the rest of us join him. He has since been confederated with Greig Macleod (1949-2017), and they are undoubtedly collaborating on their memoirs. They were joined by Linda Macleod (1948-2021) and Gay Conrad-Bagg (1956-2022), so all couples are reunited. Cheers, everyone, and leave some wine for the rest of us.
