10 April 2010

Host: Mr. Wood
Toastmaster: Mr. Macleod

The Funis gathered on this occasion to honour their friend and fellow Funi, who had quietly passed away just three days earlier.  In recognition of the occasion, the dress was semi-formal.

During the assembly of the Funis, the Stadtkrems (a) was served.

The evening began with a gathering of the Funis in the "garret tower" for toasts, photographs and champagne. The wine was the Jacob's Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir (b).  The Funis then were seated at the table, with Brother Bagg's place marked (at his suggestion) by a box of vintage rum

The opening dish was served by Brother Perina: Canadian proscuitto mixed with a bit of cream, porcini mushrooms and a reduction of figs, rum and white wine.  This was served with a wine also provided by Peter, the Gaspereau Muscat (c)

The Salad was served by Brother Smith, a Caesar salad with asiago cheese dressing.  Wines were the Jost (d), Annapolis Highland (e) and Dinnigan Hills (f)

Brother Wood then served his Roast Prime Rib with vegetables by Brother Flute: Yukon Gold potatoes creamed with parsnips, asparagus, red chard, and mushroom caps stuffed with proscuitto and blue cheese on a bed of basil.  The wines with this course were the Bogle (g), the Calera (h), the Napa Valley Cellars (i), a wine contributed by Brother Mitchell, the Ebenezer (j), and the Fitou Mont Tauch (k)

Brother Macleod's dessert was a ricotta lime tart garnished with raspberries and mint.  The wine was the Lang Samling 88 (l)

Brother Lemon then served an assortment of cheeses, which were unfortunately not recorded at the time of serving.  This may have, in part, been due to a stunning announcement by Brother Gillis that he was about to undergo treatment for a lump in his neck, and that the combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy would mean a loss of taste for an indeterminate length of time.  Certainly all Funis wish him our very best, and a speedy recovery.
